TAALIM JAMDANI

One of the most intricate forms of Jamdani, in this technique the design
is converted into written instructions or 'taalim', reading which the weaver
weaves without any image for reference.

Design and innovation

Traditionally, the master weavers of Kashmir worked exclusively with Pashmina, a textile known for its seasonal demand. When they began collaborating with the Gaurang brand, the first objective was to broaden their scope and ensure year-round engagement.

This transformation began with intensive training in using Khadi as the base yarn on their looms. The shift not only preserved their weaving heritage but also empowered them with sustainable livelihoods throughout the year.

The journey then progressed into the realm of design. Gaurang introduced a visual language defined by extreme intricacy—motifs so delicate they were once thought possible only through printing or embroidery. Today, these artisans weave sarees where a single line of motif can take up to 45 days to complete.

The result? Handwoven masterpieces that redefine the limits of textile craftsmanship—sarees that truly embody the word impossible.
